Mr. Aleman, studied law at the Javeriana\r\nUniversity (J.D., 1991) where he also obtained a Corporate Law Certificate\r\n(L.L.M., 1996). He then obtained a Diploma in Advanced Studies (DEA) in\r\nResearch at the Alcala University (Spain, 2006), and a Ph.D. in Law (2011, Cum\r\nLaude).

\r\n\r\n

Mr. Aleman\r\npracticed as an IP Attorney from 1991 to 1995. He was then appointed Head of\r\nthe Colombian Industrial Property Office, from 1995 to 1998, and was invited as\r\na Fellow Visiting Researcher at the Max Planck Institute in Munich, Germany in\r\n1998. He joined WIPO in 1999 as Senior Program Officer, Office of Cooperation\r\nfor Development for Latin America and the Caribbean (from 1999 to 2006). He was\r\nthen appointed Deputy Director in the Division for Public Policy and\r\nDevelopment (from 2006 to 2009), Deputy Director of the Patent Law Division\r\n(from 2009 to 2013), and went on to be Director of the Patent Law Division. He\r\ncurrently holds the position of Assistant Director General, leading the IP and\r\nInnovation Ecosystems Sector (IES).

Mr. Aleman is responsible for\r\nhelping Member States develop their IP and innovation ecosystems to drive\r\neconomic growth. He is also responsible for providing support for researchers,\r\ninnovators, and enterprises, including SMEs. Other key focus areas include IP\r\ncommercialization for business growth; emergence of IP as an asset class;\r\ndevelopment of advisory expertise on national IP strategies; economic analysis\r\non the role IP plays in promoting innovation and creativity; strengthening ADR\r\nand the services provided by the Arbitration and Mediation Center; and\r\nproviding technical assistance to the judiciary, as well as services related to\r\nthe legal databases.

Carsten Fink is the Chief Economist of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) based in Geneva. Before joining WIPO, he was Professor of International Economics at the University of St.Gallen. He also held the positions of Visiting Professor at the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris and Visiting Senior Fellow at the Groupe d’Economie Mondiale, a research institute at Sciences Po.

Prior to his academic appointments, Mr. Fink worked for more than 10 years at the World Bank. Among other positions, he was a Senior Economist in the International Trade Team of the World Bank Institute, working out of the World Bank’s office in Geneva and an Economist in the Trade Division of the World Bank’s research department, based in Washington, DC.

Mr. Fink’s research work – focused on intellectual property, innovation, and international trade – has been published in academic journals and books. He holds a doctorate degree in economics from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and a Master of Science degree in economics from the University of Oregon in the United States.

He is the\r\nco-founder and President of Portulans ICo-editor of the GII and Dean, Saïd\r\nBusiness School, University of Oxford, United Kingdom (U.K.)nstitute, a\r\nnon-profit non-partisan think tank based in Washington D.C. He is/has been on\r\nthe board of global firms including Sodexo, Dassault Systemes and ZS Associates.\r\nHe is currently the Chair of the Board of the Global Business School Network\r\nand is on the advisory boards of several business schools including HEC\r\nMontreal and ESADE (Spain).

Prime Minister, Barbados

In 2018, the Honourable Mia Mottley became the first woman to hold the office of Prime Minister of Barbados. Prime Minister Mottley was re-elected as Prime Minister for a second term on January 20, 2022. Prime Minister Mottley currently also holds the portfolios of Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment. Since becoming Prime Minister, Miss Mottley has served as the Chair of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and is currently the Head of Government within CARICOM bearing lead responsibility for the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). Prime Minister Mottley is also Chair of the World Health Organization’s Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance and an international advocate for development through fair and equitable financing, as enunciated in the Bridgetown Initiative.

H.E. Mr. Pham Minh Chinh has been the Prime Minister of Viet Nam since April 2021. Born on December 10, 1958, in Thanh Hoa Province, Mr. Chinh has had a distinguished career in Vietnamese politics and administration. He has an educational background in Civil and Industrial Construction Engineering, holds a Doctor of Law degree, and is an Associate Professor of Security Science. Before becoming Prime Minister, Mr. Chinh served as the Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee and was a member of the Central Party Committee. His leadership focuses on advancing economic development, enhancing governance, and maintaining social stability. His career reflects a strong dedication to improving public administration and national development.

Marya received a BA in Social Studies, an MA in Sociology, and a PhD in Organisational Behaviour from Harvard University. She also holds an MBA from Stanford University.

Co-Founder and Executive Director, Sustainable Organic\r\nIntegrated Livelihoods (SOIL), Haiti

Sasha is an ecologist, human rights advocate and social entrepreneur who has been living and working in Haiti since 2004. She received her Ph.D. in Ecology from Stanford University in 2006 and co-founded SOIL that same year. Though SOIL’s implementation work is solely in Haiti, Sasha is also a global advocate for the recycling of nutrients in human waste, helping others implement sustainable sanitation projects and inspiring people around the world to participate in the sanitation revolution. Sasha is also an Ashoka Fellow, a National Geographic Emerging Explorer, a 2014 Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the Year, and the recipient of the 2017 Sarpharti Sanitation Award for Lifetime Achievement.
