Sandra Aistars is a Clinical Professor at\r\nGeorge Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School and leads the law school’s\r\nArts & Entertainment Program. She is also Senior Fellow for Copyright\r\nResearch and Policy and a Senior Scholar at the Center for Intellectual\r\nProperty x Innovation Policy (C-IP2). Professor Aistars has over twenty years\r\nof advocacy experience on behalf of copyright and other intellectual property\r\nowners. She has served on trade missions and been an industry advisor to the\r\nDepartment of Commerce on intellectual property implications for international\r\ntrade negotiations; worked on legislative and regulatory matters worldwide;\r\nfrequently testified before Congress and federal agencies regarding\r\nintellectual property matters; chaired cross-industry coalitions and technology\r\nstandards efforts; and is regularly tapped by government agencies to lecture in\r\nU.S. government-sponsored study tours for visiting legislators, judges,\r\nprosecutors, and regulators.

Immediately prior to joining Scalia Law,\r\nProfessor Aistars was the Chief Executive Officer of the Copyright Alliance – a\r\nnonprofit, public interest organization that represents the interests of\r\nartists and creators across the creative spectrum. While at Scalia Law, she\r\ncontinues to collaborate with the Copyright Alliance as a member of its\r\nAcademic Advisory Board. Professor Aistars currently serves on the boards of\r\nthe Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA) and the Howard Intellectual\r\nProperty Program (HIPP), and she has previously served as trustee of the\r\nCopyright Society of the USA (CSUSA). Professor Aistars has also previously\r\nserved as Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Time Warner Inc. She\r\nbegan her legal career in private practice at Weil, Gotshal and Manges LLP .

\r\n\r\nDianne is an\r\nAttorney-at-Law and a founding partner of the law firm of Foga Daley based in\r\nKingston Jamaica where she heads the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP)\r\nDepartment. Dianne is an adjunct lecturer, and course director for Patent Law\r\nand Copyright Law at the graduate level and Entertainment Law at the\r\nundergraduate level, at the Faculty of Law, University of the West Indies\r\n(UWI), Cave Hill and Mona Campuses, respectively. She has a Bachelor of Laws\r\nHonours Degree from the UWI and a Master of Law’s Degree from McGill\r\nUniversity, Quebec Canada where she specialized in IP and International\r\nCopyright. Her professional memberships include the International Trademark\r\nAssociation, the Global Advertising Lawyers Association, the Intellectual\r\nProperty Association of the Caribbean and the Association of European Lawyers.

\r\n\r\nWith almost 30\r\nyears’ experience in the field of Intellectual Property, Dianne has represented\r\nJamaica as an IP expert at forums including WIPO, UNESCO and the Commonwealth\r\nCommission and provided high level advice on IP law, policy and administration\r\nto the Government of Jamaica. She chairs the Trademarks and Designs Appeals\r\nTribunal and the Copyright Tribunal of the Cayman Islands. She also serves as\r\nchairman of the Jamaican Copyright Licensing Agency, the Caribbean Reprographic\r\nRights Organizations’ Agency and the IP Committee of the Jamaican Bar\r\nAssociation.

\r\n\r\nDianne has\r\nauthored publications on IP, including the Jamaica chapter on IP in the\r\nInternational Encyclopaedia of Laws, Kluwer Law International and the Jamaica\r\nchapter on Copyright Law in Copyright throughout the World, West Law. Her previous appointments include Consultant\r\nfor the Commonwealth Secretariat and the UK Commission on IP Rights, Deputy\r\nChairman, Jamaica’s Copyright Tribunal, Acting Chairman, Jamaica Intellectual\r\nProperty Office Advisory Board, and Special Ministerial Advisor on IP.

Dr. Joel Baloyi is an advocate of the High\r\nCourt of South Africa, admitted in 2006, and currently working as University\r\nRegistrar at the University of Venda, South Africa. He previously worked at the\r\nUniversity of South Africa where he occupied, amongst others, the role of\r\nSenior Law Lecturer, teaching Commercial Law and Intellectual Property Law.\r\nPrior to this he worked as Head of Legal and Company Secretary for the Southern\r\nAfrican Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), a leading African collective\r\nmanagement organization (CMO) in the area of performing rights. He has also\r\noccupied various leadership roles, including as Independent Chairman for the\r\nSouth African Music Performance Rights Organisation (SAMPRA) NPC, Board member\r\nand Treasurer for Music in Africa (MIA) Trust and member of the Legal Committee\r\nof the International Confederation of Societies of Authors & Composers\r\n(CISAC).

Dr. Baloyi is a recognized expert in\r\ncopyright law and entertainment law. He has presented on music and copyright\r\nlaw at a number of fora, including industry conferences, academic conferences\r\n(both local and international), the World Intellectual Property Organisation\r\n(WIPO) Summer Schools, television and radio; and has published articles and\r\nparticipated in texts and book chapters in the areas of copyright and\r\ncollective management, including contributing to WIPO toolkits on collective\r\nmanagement. He has also consulted widely in the areas of music rights and\r\ncopyright in general, including providing technical advice to the Parliamentary\r\nPortfolio Committee on the copyright legislative amendments in South Africa. He\r\nis a member of the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers (IAEL),\r\nthe National Bar Council of South Africa (NBCSA) and the South African Legal\r\nPractice Council, and has completed four law degrees (BJuris, LLB, LLM and\r\nLLD). His doctoral degree was the first to explore comprehensively the subject\r\nof music copyright law in South Africa.

Ms. Cheryl Foong is a Senior Lecturer at\r\nCurtin Law School, Curtin University, Australia, where she teaches Intellectual\r\nProperty (IP) law and Competition law. She publishes on copyright law in the\r\ndigital environment, and regularly speaks at national and international\r\nconferences. Cheryl has a PhD in Law from Australian Catholic University (ACU),\r\nan LLM from Columbia Law School in New York, and an LLB with First Class\r\nHonours and an LLM (IP and Technology Law) from Queensland University of Technology\r\n(QUT).

Cheryl’s book, The Making Available Right:\r\nRealizing the Potential of Copyright's Dissemination Function in the Digital\r\nAge (Edward Elgar, 2019), critically analyses copyright owners’ exclusive right\r\nto make content available to the public in an online environment driven by\r\non-demand access, and compares United States, European Union and Australian law\r\non the topic. The book was cited and quoted by the Supreme Court of Canada in\r\nSociety of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada v. Entertainment\r\nSoftware Association, 2022 SCC 30, and has attracted positive reviews\r\nnationally and internationally. Emeritus Professor Sam Ricketson AM from the\r\nUniversity of Melbourne described it as 'elegantly executed' in the Journal of\r\nthe IP Society of Australia and New Zealand (Issue 121, September 2020) and Dr\r\nHayleigh Bosher wrote in the The IP Kat (29 May 2020) that it was 'an important\r\nbody of research that can have real impact on the future of copyright'.

In her previous role as a researcher with\r\nthe ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation (CCI) at\r\nQUT in Brisbane, Cheryl worked on direct outreach efforts to stakeholders on\r\nopen content copyright licensing and open access policy, authored articles and\r\npractical guides on Creative Commons licensing, and wrote submissions to the\r\nAustralian Government on copyright law. In addition to her research and\r\noutreach commitments, Cheryl coordinated a pro bono IP and technology law\r\nclinic for artists and innovative start-ups at the Queensland Public Interest\r\nLaw Clearing House (QPILCH), a community legal centre in Brisbane.
