Professor Azuaje Pirela has several courses and diplomas of\r\nspecialization and postdoctoral stays in the area intellectual property law.\r\nHer research agenda in the last four years has been dedicated to analyzing the\r\nimpact of Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies in Law and\r\nespecially in Intellectual Property Law. She is currently executing the\r\nPostdoctoral project entitled: \"Algorithmic Transparency and Intellectual\r\nProperty proposals for Chile\", financed by the Chilean National Agency for\r\nResearch and Development.

Dr Phoebe Li is the Co-Director for the Sussex Centre for\r\nInformation Governance Research (CIGR) and a Senior Lecturer in Law and at the\r\nUniversity of Sussex, where she teaches intellectual property and technology\r\nregulation modules. Her work has been focusing on regulating emerging digital\r\nand health technologies via the lens of intellectual property, funded by\r\nleading research councils in the UK. She is currently a Co-Investigator on a UK\r\nResearch & Innovation project: ‘Trustworthy Autonomous System: Governance\r\nand regulation (TAS)’ as well as the ESRC Centre for Inclusive Trade Policy\r\n(CITP), examining digital services trade in post-Brexit UK free trade\r\nagreements. She has published widely in the topic of patents and digital\r\ninnovation. One of her recent papers examined the issues around AI\r\ninventorship: ‘Artificial intelligence and inventorship: patently much ado in\r\nthe computer program’ (2022) 17(4) Journal of Intellectual Property Law &\r\nPractice 376-386 (with Pheh Hoon Lim). \r\nWith interdisciplinary research groups at Oxford and York Universities,\r\nshe recently concluded research projects developing the regulatory approaches\r\nfor digital biofabrication (BioModifying Technologies and BioGov\r\nprojects). Dr Li received a Bachelor of\r\nLaw degree from National Taiwan University and a PhD from Edinburgh University.\r\nShe is bilingual in Mandarin and English.

He joined Hokkaido\r\nUniversity in 2019 after he served as an Associate Professor of School of Law\r\nat Shinshu University from 2005-2009 and a Professor of School of Law at\r\nKokugakuin University from 2009-2019. \r\nPrior to joining academia, Prof. Nakayama spent many years in Government\r\nof Japan, where his last position was a Deputy Councilor, Secretariat of\r\nIntellectual Property Strategy Headquarters, Cabinet Secretariat from 2003-2005. Prof. Nakayama originally joined the Ministry\r\nof International Trade and Industry (MITI) in 1989. Then, he worked in various fields including\r\npatent law reform and regulatory reform in energy industries. After changing\r\nhis career to academia, Prof. Nakayama has published a number of articles in\r\nthe field of intellectual property law, especially patent law. One of his\r\nrecent papers focusing AI is Ichiro Nakayama, Patentability and PHOSITA in the\r\nAI Era - A Japanese Perspective in, Artificial\r\nIntelligence and Intellectual Property 99-119 (Jyh-An Lee, Reto Hilty &\r\nKung-Chung Liu eds., 2021). Prof. Nakayama received a Bachelor of Law degree in\r\n1989 from the University of Tokyo, LL.M. in 1995 from the University of\r\nWashington, and M.I.A. in 1997 from Columbia University.

Dan L. Burk is Chancellor’s Professor of Law at the\r\nUniversity of California, Irvine, where he is a founding member of the law\r\nfaculty. An internationally prominent\r\nauthority on issues related to high technology, he lectures, teaches, and\r\nwrites in the areas of patent, copyright, electronic commerce, and\r\nbiotechnology law. He is the author of\r\nnumerous papers on the legal and societal impact of new technologies, including\r\narticles on Internet regulation, on the structure of the patent system, and on\r\nthe economic analysis of intellectual property law. He is consistently ranked among the most\r\nhighly cited intellectual property scholars in the American legal academy.

Professor Burk holds a B.S. in Microbiology (1985) from\r\nBrigham Young University, an M.S. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (1987)\r\nfrom Northwestern University, a J.D. (1990) from Arizona State University, and\r\na J.S.M. (1994) from Stanford University.

Professor Giuseppina (Pina) D’Agostino is a law\r\nprofessor, lawyer, public speaker, board director and recognized international\r\nscholar at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University specializing in\r\nintellectual property (IP), disruptive technologies and innovation law and\r\npolicy. She joined Osgoode Hall in 2006\r\nand is regularly called by Canadian and international governments for advice,\r\nhas testified before the Canadian Parliament, is a widely published author,\r\nregularly serves as a consultant and is a cited authority at the Supreme Court\r\nof Canada and in various media. She serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the\r\nIntellectual Property Journal and in 2022 has been recognized as the Top 25\r\nMost Influential Lawyers in Canada by Canadian Lawyer Magazine.

Professor D’Agostino brings her creativity and passion to\r\ntrailblaze new initiatives and to serve in new roles as co-Founder and\r\nco-Director of the new Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Society (CAIS)\r\nfor York University; Founder and Director of the globally-recognized IP\r\nOsgoode, the award-winning, IPilogue, the IP Intensive, the IP Innovation\r\nClinic, the first legal clinic of its kind helping inventors and start-ups across\r\nCanada and, more recently, founded the AI-powered IP Innovation ChatBot\r\nallowing underrepresented groups and the general public greater access to IP\r\ninformation.

Professor D’Agostino served as the co-chair of the York\r\nUniversity AI & Society Task Force culminating in the Fostering the Future\r\nof Artificial Intelligence report, is appointed to the City of Vaughan Smart\r\nCity Task Force and is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for International\r\nGovernance Innovation (CIGI). She spent her last sabbatical as a Visiting\r\nScholar at Stanford University. Prof D’Agostino is the recipient of various\r\ntri-council grants, honours and awards and is currently working on the second\r\nedition of Copyright Law (with Prof David Vaver, Irwin Law). Her peer-reviewed\r\narticles and her three books Copyright, Contract, Creators: New Media, New\r\nRules, The Common Law of Intellectual Property: Essays in Honour of Professor\r\nDavid Vaver and Leading Legal Disruption: Artificial Intelligence and a Toolkit\r\nfor Lawyers and the Law are widely available.

She was Associate to Justice MF Moore in the Federal Court of\r\nAustralia and, while studying, worked for the international news organization\r\nReuters.

Alexandra’s research focuses on international\r\nintellectual property and the philosophy of intellectual property law. Recent\r\npublications examine issues of jurisdiction and enforcement in international\r\nintellectual property law, and the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and\r\nintellectual property. Her book Constructing Intellectual Property examines the\r\nways in which the legal system defines into existence and regulates\r\nintellectual property. She is currently working on a volume titled Constructing\r\nAI-IP, which examines possibilities for the regulation of AI-generated\r\ncreations.

Alexandra has been named 'Academic of the Year' at the\r\nAustralian Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards, has received a Vice-Chancellor’s\r\nAward for Teaching Excellence at UNSW, and also a Pro Bono Award for her work\r\nfor The Arts Law Centre of Australia.

Gaétan\r\nde Rassenfosse is Associate Professor in Science & Technology Policy at the\r\nÉcole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Before joining EPFL, he\r\nwas a senior research fellow at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He\r\nobtained a Ph.D. in Economics from the Solvay Business School at the Université\r\nlibre de Bruxelles, Belgium, in 2010. He was a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley (California,\r\nUSA) in 2018 and MIT (Massachusetts, USA) in summer of 2019.

\r\n\r\n

The overarching objective of Gaétan’s research is to\r\nprovide the policy environment that best addresses the needs of the knowledge\r\neconomy. This objective is met by producing sound empirical evidence on\r\nresearch questions related to science, technology and innovation policy, with\r\nspecial interest in intellectual property issues. His work appeared in\r\ninternational peer-reviewed scientific journals such as Journal of Industrial\r\nEconomics, Journal of Law & Economics, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal,\r\nJournal of Economics & Management Strategy, Research Policy and European\r\nEconomic Review. He received more than $2.5 million in research funding from\r\ninstitutions including the U.S. NSF, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Swiss\r\nNetwork for International Studies, the Swiss National Science Foundation, and\r\nthe European Patent Office.
