Carsten Fink is the Chief Economist of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) based in Geneva. Before joining WIPO, he was Professor of International Economics at the University of St.Gallen. He also held the positions of Visiting Professor at the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris and Visiting Senior Fellow at the Groupe d’Economie Mondiale, a research institute at Sciences Po.

Prior to his academic appointments, Mr. Fink worked for more than 10 years at the World Bank. Among other positions, he was a Senior Economist in the International Trade Team of the World Bank Institute, working out of the World Bank’s office in Geneva and an Economist in the Trade Division of the World Bank’s research department, based in Washington, DC.

Mr. Fink’s research work – focused on intellectual property, innovation, and international trade – has been published in academic journals and books. He holds a doctorate degree in economics from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and a Master of Science degree in economics from the University of Oregon in the United States.

Barry Scannell is a globally\r\nrecognised expert in AI law and governance. A partner in one of Ireland's top\r\nlaw firms, William Fry, Barry has been a driving force in shaping legal\r\nstrategies for some of the world’s leading technology companies. Specialising\r\nin AI and intellectual property law, particularly copyright, he advises clients\r\non Irish and EU legal frameworks, helping them navigate\r\nthe complexities of regulatory compliance. In January 2024,\r\nBarry was appointed by the Irish Government to Ireland's AI Advisory Council. He has just\r\nsubmitted a PhD on AI and Copyright. Barry also sits on the Law Society\r\nof Ireland's IP and Data Protection Committee, where he is pivotal in\r\naddressing AI legal issues which impact Ireland.

Ms. Lorato Modise is a seasoned lecturer at Limkokwing\r\nUniversity, where she has honed a deep passion for education, training, and\r\nleadership. Her roles in academia are complemented by her commitment to\r\nfostering intellectual growth and skill development, particularly in the fields\r\nof Intellectual Property (IP) and youth entrepreneurship. As a former AfCFTA\r\nCoordinator with YALDA, she led initiatives aimed at promoting the AfCFTA among\r\nyoung African entrepreneurs, managing activities that enhanced understanding\r\nand engagement with the trade framework. Ms. Modise's leadership in these\r\ninitiatives has equipped her with valuable skills in cross-border trade,\r\nintellectual property awareness, and capacity-building for African youth. Vojtěch is a Partner at the Bird & Bird’s office in Prague, and heads the Intellectual Property and Tech & Comms groups for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

He specialises in all aspects of intellectual property and technology law, whether contentious, commercial or regulatory. With more than 20 years of experience, he is one of the leading and repeatedly internationally recognised experts in intellectual property and technology law on the market. He has extensive expertise in advising clients from across various technology-rich sectors, from start-up innovative businesses to major global players. Being a technology lawyer, Vojtěch takes immense interest in dynamically developing technologies like Generative AI, application of blockchain technology in business and the advancements in quantum computing.
