Deputy Director General, Regional and National Development Sector, WIPO.

Hasan Kleib is Deputy Director General for the Regional and National Development Sector of

the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) since January 2021. Prior to the role,

he was the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the

United Nations, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other International Organizations

in Geneva from 2017 to 2020. During his tenure, Mr. Hasan Kleib served as the Chairman of

the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020.

From 2012-2017, he was the Deputy Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs of Indonesia

after finishing his tenure as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the

United Nations in New York. Since 1987, he has served a number of roles in the Ministry of

Foreign Affairs, including Director for International Security and Disarmament, and in

Indonesian Missions abroad including as Head of the Political Division at the Indonesian

Embassy in Washington, D.C. Mr. Kleib received Bachelor’s degree in International

Relations from Padjadjaran University from Indonesia and Master’s Degree in Foreign Affairs

and Trade from Monash University in Australia.

Edward Kwakwa is Assistant Director General, Global Challenges and Partnerships Sector, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva. He served as General Counsel at WIPO from 2004 until September 2016. Kwakwa holds an LL.B. degree from the University of Ghana, an LL.M. from Queen’s University in Canada, and an LL.M. and a J.S.D. from Yale Law School in the U.S.A.

Before joining WIPO, Kwakwa practiced with the law firm of O’Melveny and Myers in Washington, D.C., worked as International Legal Adviser at the Commission on Global Governance in Geneva, as Senior Legal Adviser at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and as Legal Affairs Officer at the World Trade
Organization (WTO).

Her Excellency Ambassador Sofia Boza

Permanent Representative of Chile to the World Trade Organization

Sofía Boza was appointed by President Gabriel Boric to be\r\nthe Ambassador of Chile to the World Trade Organization starting in July of\r\n2022. She has also taken over the co-coordination of the Structured Discussions\r\non Investment Facilitation for Development. Prior to this position, Sofia Boza\r\nwas an associate professor and head of the Department of Rural Management and\r\nInnovation at the University of Chile, a professor at the Institute of International\r\nStudies at the same university, as well as an external evaluator of public policies\r\nfor the Budget Office of the Chilean Ministry of Finance. She has a PhD in Economics\r\nfrom the Autonomous University of Madrid, a master's in Economic Development and\r\nPublic Policies from the same university, a professional title in Commercial\r\nEngineering from the University of Chile, and a bachelor’s degree in Economics\r\n(Honors) from the University of Seville. She has published more than 50 academic\r\narticles, book chapters and reports on agricultural policy and governance,\r\nrural development, food markets, and international trade. She has been a\r\nvisiting fellow at the World Trade Institute at the University of Bern, as well\r\nas an expert instructor at the Institute of Food Laws and Regulations at\r\nMichigan State University. She has been a member of the board of the Chilean\r\nAssociation of Agricultural Economists and of the Ibero-American Network for Development\r\nStudies. Within the University of Chile, she participated in the creation and coordination\r\nof the Studies in Agricultural Policy and Development Group (NEPAD), the Sustainable\r\nAgrifood Systems Laboratory (SASLab), and the Chair of Family Farming and Food.

Elcio Perpetuo Guimaraes has been the Director General at Embrapa Rice and Bean since 2019. He holds BSc in Agronomy and MSc in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ), Piracicaba, Brazil, and a PhD in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Iowa State University, Ames, United States of America.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Guimaraes worked as Research and Development Director at Embrapa Rice and Bean; Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), Cali, Colombia; Senior Officer Cereal/Crops Breeding at Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Rome, Italy; and Rice breeder at Embrapa Rice and Bean and at CIAT.

He published more than 150 technical articles, book chapters, edited several books, and gave more than 350 talks in different countries worldwide in Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and English. Mr. Guimaraes is responsible for the release of more than 40 rice cultivars in Brazil and countries in Latina America and the Caribbean.

Susan H. Bragdon is an international lawyer, natural resource ecologist and U.S. patent agent with more than 25 years of experience working with governments, United Nations agencies and multilateral institutions and donor organizations on policy and science related to sustainable food systems, biological diversity, small-scale farmers, and agroecology.

She served as the first Legal Advisor to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. She was also the first attorney-senior scientist hired within the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) at senior level to develop and implement policy strategy on plant genetic diversity and food security and to leverage its role through critical partnerships. She developed and led the Food and Sustainability Programme at the Quaker United Nations Office in Geneva and served as a policy advisor to Oxfam Novib’s Sowing Diversity=Harvesting Security Programme.

Fahad Ifaz is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of iFarmer, which aims to provide end-to-end solutions for farmers and Agri micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Fahad has almost 10 years of experience in Agriculture and Rural Economic Development with organizations like the World Bank, CARE International, Swisscontact and Palladium. He has worked extensively in South Asia, designing and managing programs to improve the social and economic conditions of the people at the bottom of the pyramid. Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and WIPO

Pimchanok Vonkorpon Pitfield has been Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the WTO and WIPO in Geneva since March 2021. Prior to this, she was appointed as Director-General to establish a new Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) at the Ministry of Commerce, Thailand. At TPSO, Pimchanok initiated projects that led the Office into the “New Economy” era such as Trade Intelligence System or “Big Data” unit, a traceability system for organic rice using Blockchain and a first-ever comprehensive data unit for Thai logistics operators -\"Logistics+\".

Pimchanok’s career has been focused on trade negotiations such as services, investment, e-commerce, environment and labour. Her negotiation experiences span from multilateral- (WTO), regional- (ASEAN and APEC) to bilateral-level (FTA). Pimchanok's deep understanding of cultural, social and national diversity stems from her international experiences, ranging from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand to the Graduate Institute of Policy Studies in Japan and professional trainings at the WTO (Geneva), L’Ecole Nationale d’Administration in Paris, Harvard Kennedy School of Government to the Capital Market Academy and the Institute of Justice in Thailand.

Mr. Peter Button was appointed Vice Secretary-General of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) on December 1, 2010, having previously held the role of Technical Director at UPOV since 2000.

Mr. Button graduated from the University of Warwick with a B.Sc. Honors degree in Biological Sciences. From 1981 to 1987 he worked for Twyford Seeds Ltd., a UK plant breeding company, in the development of new cereal varieties. Between 1987 and 1994 he was the General Manager of Twygen Ltd., a company which developed micropropagation systems for the commercial production of seed potatoes and soft fruit stocks. He continued in the role of General Manager of GenTech Propagation Ltd., following the change of ownership and company name in 1994. In 1996, Mr. Button joined the British Society of Plant Breeders Ltd. (BSPB) as Technical Liaison Manager, where his responsibilities included the operation of officially licensed variety trials. In 1998, he became Technical Liaison Officer for the UK Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Plant Variety and Seeds Division), where he was responsible for the operation of the tests and trials associated with the UK Plant Breeders’ Rights and National List schemes and Seed Certification in England and Wales, and was the United Kingdom representative in the UPOV Technical Committee.
