Carsten Fink is the Chief Economist of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) based in Geneva. Before joining WIPO, he was Professor of International Economics at the University of St.Gallen. He also held the positions of Visiting Professor at the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris and Visiting Senior Fellow at the Groupe d’Economie Mondiale, a research institute at Sciences Po.

Prior to his academic appointments, Mr. Fink worked for more than 10 years at the World Bank. Among other positions, he was a Senior Economist in the International Trade Team of the World Bank Institute, working out of the World Bank’s office in Geneva and an Economist in the Trade Division of the World Bank’s research department, based in Washington, DC.

Mr. Fink’s research work – focused on intellectual property, innovation, and international trade – has been published in academic journals and books. He holds a doctorate degree in economics from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and a Master of Science degree in economics from the University of Oregon in the United States.

Intan Hamdan-Livramento is an Economist working in the Department\r\nof Economics and Data Analytics at the WIPO headquarters in Geneva,\r\nSwitzerland. She is a co-author of WIPO’s analytical publication, the World\r\nIntellectual Property Report. Intan Hamdan-Livramento is responsible for\r\nconducting and supervising areas of the section’s work relating to the\r\neconomics of innovation and intellectual property (IP). Her current research portfolio\r\ninclude agriculture, digitalization, IP institutions and sustainability.

Intan Hamdan-Livramento received her PhD in economics from\r\nthe École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. She holds a Diplôme d’Études\r\nApprofondies in international economics from the Graduate Institute of\r\nInternational Studies in Geneva, and a Master’s in international law and\r\neconomics from the World Trade Institute in Bern, Switzerland. She received her\r\nundergraduate degree from Whitman College, Walla Walla, Washington, United\r\nStates of America.

Prior to WIPO, Intan Hamdan-Livramento worked at the\r\nInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Dr. Hazel V. J. Moir, Honorary Associate Professor at the Australian National University (ANU) Centre for European Studies, is an economist, with substantial policy advising experience and a PhD in public policy. Over the past two decades her work has focused on the economic impact of IP policy, particularly patent policy and GIs. In addition to research and academic publishing, she makes submissions to both Australian and international enquiries, such as the 2016 UN Secretary- General’s High-Level Panel on Access to Medicines. Her work on the economic impact of IP policies also takes her into the field of trade treaties, and she currently takes a particular interest in the EU-Australia trade negotiations (2018 onwards).

Her work on GIs is largely empirical, focusing on the impact of GIs on producer net incomes. It includes an EU-funded Jean Monet grant “Understanding Geographical Indications” (March 2017 to March 2019) and articles in the Journal of World Trade (51(6), Dec. 2017; and 56(6), Dec 2023), Studies in Agricultural Economics (120(3), Dec. 2018) and Sustainability (12(22), Nov. 2020).

Prior to studying for her PhD in public policy at the ANU, Hazel Moir worked at senior levels in the Australian Public Service for two decades, largely on industry, innovation and trade matters. Earlier she worked in the UK, New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand and France, largely in the private and non-government organization (NGO) sectors.

She has PhD degrees from Brown University (demography, 1975) and the ANU (public policy, 2010), a European Master’s Degree in human rights (University of Padua, 2001) and an honors degree in economics (University of Cambridge, 1969).

Pilar Montero is Commercial Law Professor of the University of Alicante, expert in Intellectual Property. PhD in from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is the Director of the Magister Lvcentinvs, Master in Intellectual Property and Digital Innovation at the University of Alicante, ranked as the First Specialized Master in Spain, program celebrating this year its 31st edition.

She is member of the GIs Research Unit of the Commercial Law Department of the University of Alicante, leading the Academic Specialist Diploma: “Specialist Academic Title on Distinctive Quality Signs and Plant Breeding”, a unique university certificate entirely dedicated to geographical indications and plant varieties.

Pilar Montero is an expert in intellectual property, mainly in geographical indications, collective trademarks, certification marks, and cultural heritage. She has widely published books and articles in several scientific journals.

She is regular speaker in different national and international forums on geographical indications, trademarks and other intellectual property rights organized by public and private institutions and national offices at international level.

She is consultant and member of expert committees in several public and private institutions. She provides legal opinions for public and private bodies, producers associations and Governments on geographical indications and trademarks.

Dr. Charlene Musiza is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) Chair in Intellectual Property, Innovation and Development at the University of Cape Town. She holds an LLB degree from the University of Zimbabwe, an LLM degree (specializing in commercial law) and a PhD in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town. She is a lawyer licensed to practice in Zimbabwe and has previously worked as a legal associate at a law firm, focusing on corporate and commercial law. Her research interests lie at the intersection of IP and development, particularly how small-scale producers can leverage appropriate IP rights. She has published and presented her research on geographical indications in Africa, investigating how African countries can better use geographical indications to further socio-economic development.

She is an alumna of the Queen Elizabeth Scholar – Advanced Scholar (QES-AS) and has worked at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Open African Innovation Research Network (Open AIR). She has consulted on developing sector specific IP policies and designing appropriate legal protection schemes for SMEs and is an expert for the United Nations Office of the Special Advisor for Africa.

Catherine de Ronde is the Vice President of Economics and Legislative Affairs at Agri-Mark Dairy Cooperative. She joined Agri-Mark in 2017 and is responsible for watching dairy market trends, forecasting milk prices, and working on state and federal legislation affecting the cooperative and its members. Catherine de Ronde was previously employed as the Agricultural Economist with the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources. She holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in resource economics from the University of Connecticut.

Agri-Mark is a dairy cooperative owned by over 400 dairy farm families in the Northeastern United States. The cooperative has been marketing milk for dairy farmers since 1916. Agri-Mark operates four manufacturing facilities that transform its members milk into value-added dairy products. It is best known for its valuable, award-winning, and time-honored consumer brand – Cabot. Naturally aged Vermont cheddar cheese and fresh creamery butter top the list of Cabot’s best-known products.

Jorge Chávarro is a lawyer graduated from the Universidad Externado de Colombia in Bogota, with studies in Legal Terminology and Private International Law at the University of Paris, as well as Private International Law at the Hague Academy of International Law.

He joined Cavelier Abogados in 1987 and has been a partner and head of the firm’s international department since 1993. He is specialized in private international law and intellectual property, especially geographical indications, and plant varieties.

Laura Baumann is Secretary General of the European Crafts Alliance and consultant for national and international customers, related to the craft sector, design and the cultural and creative industries.

Laura Baumann has a degree in translation and interpretation from the Pompeu Fabra University. She has completed her studies with several Master’s degrees: in International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid; Business Internationalization; and, Intercultural Communication and European Studies.

She has worked both in the private sector, as well as in non-profit organizations and public bodies, especially in Spain, but also in other countries such as Serbia or Belgium. For more than 15 years, she has been managing projects to strengthen and improve the competitiveness of the craft sector, as well as promotion and enhancement. She has been part of juries for awards and recognitions to the craft sector and has been in charge of numerous exhibitions.
